Book Review: Land Rover Buying and Selling Manual: How to do the best deals

Image of Land Rover Buying and Selling Manual: How to do the best deals

"Land Rover Buying and Selling Manual: How to do the best deals" is somewhat United Kingdom centric but still has great advice for buying and selling a Land Rover regardless of where you live.  It has lots of full color pictures.  It would be great to see an update to cover online selling resources, but overall this is an excellent book and will be very helpful to you when buying or selling a Land Rover.  Read more »

Book Review: First Overland: London-Singapore by Land Rover

Image of First Overland: London-Singapore by Land Rover

Originally published in 1957, this book is an entertaining account of the first overland motorized trip from London to Singapore.  In 1955, five students from Cambridge and one from Oxford set out in two Land Rovers and made it all the way from London to Singapore.  One of the students, Tim Slessor, wrote the book and another, Antony Barrington Brown, did photography and filmwork for the book and a BBC production.

A very entertaining read - I could not recommend it more highly.  Best travel book of any kind I have ever read, and I have read many.  Read more »

Book Review: Land Rover World Magazine

Image of Land Rover World

Land Rover World is an excellent magazine with something for everyone.  It is in large format United Kingdom style.  See the Amazon review below which sums up the magazine nicely.  Only downside is buying the magazine in the United States is relatively expensive (for a magazine), but worth it.   Read more »

Book Review: Land Rover: The Incomparable 4x4 from Series 1 to Defender

Image of Land Rover: The Incomparable 4x4 from Series 1 to Defender (Ludvigsen Library Series)

At only 128 pages, I feel author Paul Woods was really only getting started on his subject matter with his book "Land Rover The incomparable 4x4 from Series 1 to Defender."  If you want to get every Land Rover book out there, then this one has value.  But there are other general Land Rover guides that are cheaper and more comprehensive.  It does have some excellent old Land Rover photos I have never seen elsewhere.  Read more »

Book Review: Camel Trophy Argentina Paraguay Chile 1994

Camel Trophy 1994 bookExcellent!  You must understand this is a showcase of the author's photography capturing the Camel Trophy event, and the book is short on words, but taken for what it was meant to the be, the book is excellent.

My only complaint with it is that it is not longer.  At 94 pages, I would of liked to see something twice as long.  I think there was enough happening during the Camel Trophy run to have supported a book that long.

Bottom line, fans of adventure travel, off-roading, and events like the Camel Trophy will definitely be glad they bought this book.  Read more »

Book Review: Ultimate Buyers' Guide - Land Rover Discovery (1989-1998) and Discovery Series II (1998-2004)

Image of Land Rover Discovery: Ultimate Buyers' Guide

Tons of full color pictures.  Focus is more on British specification vehicles, but it does cover the American specs. Great book for newbies to Land Rover, but it might be kind of on the basic side if you are already fairly knowledgeable about Land Rovers.  But the full color pictures are eye candy sweetness...  Read more »

Book Review: Land Rover Series One to Freelander by Graham Robson

Image of Land Rover: Series One to Freelander (Crowood Autoclassics)

Excellent book, entertaining read, but is very oriented to history.  If you are interested in Land Rover history, you will thoroughly enjoy this book.  If history is not your cup of tea, then pass.  I enjoyed it, and give it 4 stars.  Reviewers on Amazon.com did not like it as much, see below.  Read more »
