Interview with Land Rover LRX Interior Designer Sandy Boyes
Yeah, the whole reason for this iPhone concept in the center console is to dock the iPhone in the car. You upload all your data -- your music, your seat settings, your steering wheel settings and all the information for your transfigurable displays which are at the top here and in the cluster.
What happens when you put the phone in is the uh start icon appears on the screen and that enables you start the car. So it's a security thing as well as a data transfer system as well.
Awesome. Ok, now, is there actually any legitimate reason that you would be able to do this in the future or is this just pure fantasy design?
No, no I think you can do this - I mean you could offer this as a premium pack. You don't have to have an iPhone - you could have some other system. But there is no reason why you can't do this -- especially with the amount of data you can transfer to personalize the settings around the whole of the car.
OK, well this is just a demonstration and not actually a working model but what are some of the other screens that you guys dreamed up.
Um, well most of the information on this is just a start button - a flashing start button - and some LRS graphics that squirrel around but what we've done is we've put most of the data in the instrument cluster and the screen and its all connected to this area of the console.
