This is a decent video from CARADVICE.com.au that reviews the Land Rover Freelander 2's off-road capabilities.

Freelander 2 HSE TD4
We're in Land Rover's baby model, the Freelander 2 TD4, with 400 neutonmeters and um let me tell if you think - I might have called it a baby - but its no baby when it comes to off-road ability. This thing will go wherever a Defender will go all be it a little slower.
But we're gonna attack a hard core section up in the Liffco Mountains and um its pretty special. And what I've done is I've engaged mud and ruts on my terrain response and I've got hill descent working which means I'm gonna take my foot off the brake and the accelerator and not use either, I'm just gonna steer thru these particularly muddy sections. That's a big bump, that's a big {beeeeepp}
After all that I actually forgot to switch the damn thing to mud and rats. What that means is the the vehicle is now both accelerating and braking on its own, with no driver input except of course steering.
And climbing back up these awfully muddy tracks is just as easy. Now this thing is just going up these things like its breakfast time. Not even an issue.
Now here's a real slick section - are we going to have any problem - not at all
You might as well be in this than any other full wheel drive because it is a hell of a lot more comfortable than anything from some of the other brands.
So my foot is completely off the brake right now and its just going down slowly because the hill-descent is on and as you can see I can actually well just go to sleep um we're going down a really steep hill...hmm.. I think its boring with all the electronics, I think with the Defender it would actually be more fun doing this.
You can barely recognize the Freelander 2 with all the mud so we decided to give it a well-earned bath or two. With an incredible 500mm wade depth capability, we went straight for the mini-billabongs up here.
To give you some perspective, all day we have been following a Discovery 3,
and wherever that things been able to go we've been able to go. Now people that we know have told us that the Freelander 2 can pretty much do anything the Defender can do but a little bit slower.
So for the comfort and the ride, and the fact that you can go pretty much anywhere, its pretty good value for money.
Going forward in the Freelander 2 is almost too easy, so the challenge is to backup out of here.
You can get a diesel powered Freelander 2 for around 45,000 dollars. We can't think of another vehicle that comes close when you factor in its off-road ability.
